Dear Teachers, Students & Parents,

GCMA is proud to offer the Jazz/Pop Festival again this year – on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Heritage Park Baptist Church in Webster. In our continuous response to Covid19, students, even though encouraged to participate in person, will have an alternative option of participation.

Option 1 (preferred): Students may choose to perform in a recital format and be individually judged by a qualified judge. Parents, family and friends are invited to attend and be a part of the audience. Parents should stay for the entire 30-minute recital in which their student(s) is performing. Your student’s teacher will assign a recital time prior to the festival.

Option 2: Students may choose to submit a pre-recorded video performance done at home or in the teacher’s studio. Pre-recorded performances must be submitted online by midnight on October 30, 2021. Each pre-recorded video performance will be individually judged by a qualified judge with the same standards as the in-person recital format. Pre-recorded video performances must follow the recording guidelines. Recording guidelines will be published and emailed to teachers as soon as possible.

Categories: Piano & piano ensemble (one piano only), voice solo, voice ensemble up to 4 singers and piano accompaniment, and guitar solo. All solo selections must be memorized. Improvisations are also acceptable. Online pieces must be published with written permission given to copy. Each performance student must provide an original copy of the music for the judge. Ensembles must provide 2 original copies. No photocopies allowed. 1st measures of each line should be numbered. All students will receive a critique sheet with a rating: Star Performer (trophy) or Remarkable Performer (ribbon). For in-person recitals, students should arrive at least 10 minutes before recital time.

This festival is an opportunity for students to have fun with their performance in a relaxed atmosphere in-person or pre-recorded. They are encouraged to dress in a creative manner relating to the topic, style, or nature of their music. Prizes will be given for the best costumes. Hope to see you at this year’s festival.

The Jazz / Pop Team

Teachers: Only GCMA members are allowed to participate. Students are limited to one song choice no longer than 3 minutes. Please be precise in the timing of the piece length for in-person performances. No teacher accompaniment on piano solos.

Entry deadline is October 15, 2022. The in-person recital time slots will be first come first serve. Registration fee is $18 per student and is non-refundable for any reason.
