Gilmer Summer Study Scholarship

HISTORY:  This scholarship was begun by Irma Gilmer, a charter member of G.C.M.A., in memory of her mother-in-law, a patron of the arts.  The estate donated $100 per year for 10 years to establish the fund.

GENERAL REMARKS: This Scholarship is for students of G.C.M.A. teachers who are members in good standing for at least 1 school year. Students of those teachers must have participated in at least 1 festival the preceding school year.

There are 2 categories:  Junior High Division (students entering 7th grade – 9th grade) and the High School Division (students entering 10th grade – 12th grade).  A teacher may enter 2 students in each division. There will be one declared winner in each division being awarded $250 each.  If there is no winner in one of the divisions, the money may or may not be used at the discretion of the judge and the chairman.  Scholarship checks will be made payable to the music camp upon acceptance to the camp. Winners of the preceding year are ineligible to enter in the same division the next year only.

ELIGIBILITY:  1. The member must be the primary teacher of the instrument on which the audition is performed.  2.  It is the responsibility of the teacher to be certain the student will be able to attend camp should the student be a winner of this event.

GENERAL REMARKS: If a selection has more than one movement, any one may be chosen.  Repeats need NOT be observed.  Provide music for judges, measures numbered, and selection paper-clipped if in a book. Auditions are closed.  Any questions or suggestions may be directed to the chairman.

REPERTOIRE: The repertoire requirement will be the same as what the camp requires.  All selections must be performed from memory.  Arrangements are not acceptable.  If more than two pieces are required the judge may choose the literature to be performed.
